Wanderlust on Alpe di Siusi

Summer, SUN, Siusi: welcome to Alpe di Siusi!

Hiking on Alpe di Siusi, up-close with the mighty Mount Sciliar/Schlern, you are in the very heart of the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage since June 2009. Here thriving alpine pastures, rocky peaks and never-ending walking trails are all about you, with an ever fascinating and highly multi-faceted flora and fauna.

The modern cable car in Siusi allo Sciliar/Seis am Schlern takes you high up to the largest high plain in Europe. At the summit, a spectacular mountain panorama awaits you with views of Sassolungo/Langkofel, Sassopiatto/Plattkofel and Sciliar/Schlern, with its bizarre rock formations the trademark of South Tyrol. All clear for hiking on Alpe di Siusi. The 450 km of trails offer something for every taste: leisurely strolls, cottage tours, mountain treks, ascents to the summits or trekking tours of several days with certified hiking and mountain guides, on the trails of the Sciliar/Schlern witches…

Our hiking tips on Alpe di Siusi: follow the Geologists’ Path near Siusi/Seis or the Farm Trail in Aica/Aicha. On a hot summer day, visit the little Lake of Fiè/Völs for a refreshing plunge or simply take in the peaceful and idyllic ambience by the lakeshore. Do not forget to stop at one of the rustic alpine cottages and traditional inns and to sample the freshly prepared traditional delicacies, before heading back home to our feel-good apartments at Moarlhof.

The nature park Sciliar-Catinacco/Schlern-Rosengarten is situated on the territory of Castelrotto/Kastelruth, Tires/Tiers and Fiè allo Sciliar/Völs am Schlern. Together with the protected nature reign of Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm, Tschamin valley and Mount Catinaccio/Rosengarten, it offers an immensely diverse habitat for numerous animals and plants covering approx. 6.8 ha. Bird watchers can be sure to spot woodpeckers, howls, crossbills, willow tits or alpine choughs. During their search for food, they love to pass by the local mountain hotels. When on Alpe di Siusi, look out for the highly praised show of flowers. In summer, this is where you find the red saxifraga, crocuses, anemones, soldanellas and alpine roses…
